Brief Biographical Sketch:

Jessica is a senior at Yale studying Spanish on the pre-medical track. She is from Boston, MA and enjoys making music, folding origami, playing squash, and spending time with her family.

Among her favorite things are writing letters on pretty stationary, damp grass on a summer morning, apple-picking, old books and train stations, and making someone smile.

At Yale, Jessica is involved in the Connecticut Hospice, Yale Students for Christ, The Musical Cure, and club squash.

E2447: Cultures of Spain in Sprout Spring 17 (Feb. 11 - 25, 2017)
This class will start with a brief history of Spain and examine the many different cultures that have developed as a result of the country's rich history. Do you remember learning about Christopher Columbus in elementary school and want to know more about Spanish conquistadors? Does everyone in Spain love flamenco and bullfighting? If you enjoy eating churros con chocolate, you may be in for a sweet surprise at the end of class :)

What is a pilgrimage? Why have people walked across Spain since the 11th century? We will journey toward the Cathedral at Santiago de Compostela and learn about the history behind the Way of St. James. You'll also have the opportunity to start planning your own journey!

X1349: The Art of Letter Writing in Splash Fall 14 (Nov. 08, 2014)
When was the last time you received a letter in the mail? When was the last time you've written a letter to a friend? How about the last time you sent a text? Letter writing is becoming a lost art, yet it has been shown to have therapeutic benefits such as increased happiness. In this class we'll discuss the art of writing letters and then spend time crafting letters to some special pen pals!


S1147: White Belt Kakuro in Sprout Summer 2014 (Jul. 12 - Aug. 02, 2014)
In this class, we will learn how to solve Kakuro puzzles, which are like mathematical crosswords in the sense that a number form 1-9 must be inserted into each white box according to the horizontal and vertical clues given. If you are a fan of Sudoku and want to learn a different type of addicting logic puzzle, then this class is perfect for you! Students will come out of the class fully equipped to solve Kakuro puzzles for daily brain training and endless fun!


A1075: Elegant Origami in Splash Spring 14 (Mar. 29, 2014)
Do you enjoy transforming pieces of paper into elegant art and magical creations? Have you exhausted all the designs in the Origami Page-A-Day Calendars that you receive for the holidays every year? Looking for origami folding that goes beyond the traditional crane, jumping frog, and box? If you answered yes to any of these questions, this class is perfect for you! We will fold 1-2 models of medium complexity that bring out the possibilities of creative paper-folding! The models to be folded will be determined in class, depending on what students would like to fold!
