A crash course into the world of social psychology: the study of how we perceive, interact, influence, and relate to others. Learn the basics of social influence, group dynamics, and more! The floor will be opened up towards the end of the class for discussion and questions.
C1870: Introduction to Social Psychology in Sprout Spring 16 (Feb. 13 - 27, 2016)
Social psychology is just one branch of psychology and it is composed of the "study of how people's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are influenced by the actual, imagined, or implied presence of others". In this course, we will be going over a basic introduction to the field. Topics will include conformity and group influence, emotions and nonverbal behavior, and the science of the self.
E1430: Social Engineering: The Art of Lying in Sprout Spring 15 (Feb. 14 - 28, 2015)
Social engineering can be defined as “any act that influences a person to take an action that may or may not be in their best interest.” The subject is a mix of psychology, technology, and art.
This class will cover a brief introduction to social engineering and the many tactics these engineers employ to gain information as well as several of the common methods and techniques of persuasion.

The term "social engineering" as an act of psychological manipulation is associated with the social sciences, but its usage has caught on among computer and information security professionals and is one of the growing fields of study today.
This course will briefly cover the basics and principles of social engineering as well as some of the easy tactics one can use in persuasion and compliance.
