S3206: Quantum Physics in Biology in Splash Spring 18 (Apr. 07, 2018)
Quantum mechanics tells us that photons and electrons sometimes act like particles, and sometimes act like waves. We're going to learn how studying these tiny things helps scientists understand living organisms as big as the human body! We'll also talk about how many of the biggest problems in science today can only be solved if researchers from drastically different disciplines work together.

C2849: Drawing The Human Face in Sprout Fall 17 (Sep. 30 - Oct. 14, 2017)
Three classes focused on techniques anyone can learn to draw what they see accurately and realistically. The first class will focus on lines, angles and proportions: drawing simple geometric objects around us. The other two weeks focus on portraits. All works will be in pencil (2B preferred, HB works too. NO MECHANICAL PENCILS.) Students should bring sketching papers or notebook.

S2734: Introduction to Spectroscopy in Splash Spring 17 (Apr. 08, 2017)
Spectroscopy is a vast field encompassing many methods that use different properties of molecular systems and the electromagnetic spectrum to give us information about the identity and structure of compounds. We will learn the principles of spectroscopy and two commonly used spectroscopic methods. Topics covered: The electromagnetic spectrum. Bonding. The origin of color. Selected methods: IR and UV-vis spectroscopy.

S2239: Chemistry of Painting in Splash Fall 16 (Nov. 05, 2016)
Where does color come from? What are artists' paints made of? What is done to make sure paintings last longer? What decides the consistency and opacity of different paints? What's the difference between the three different kinds of white (zinc, titanium and lead) and when should you use them? .

S2003: Sustainability in Science in Splash Spring 16 (Apr. 02, 2016)
Focus on the 12 principles of green chemistry, what they mean and how they apply to the practice of synthesis and design.
