Brief Biographical Sketch:
I'm a senior from New Jersey, and I love studying linguistics - so much that I'm completing a Master's Degree during my four years in college! I'm a founding member of the Yale Grammatical Diversity Project (microsyntax.sites.yale.edu), which is a new resource for learning about variation in US English, and I have also researched language and the mind. Beyond this, I like to sing, provide tech support, and spend time in my Christian fellowship! Next year, I will be teaching secondary math in Eastern North Carolina with Teach for America. Past Classes(Clicking a class title will bring you to the course's section of the corresponding course catalog)H422: Dialects in America in Splash Spring 13 (Apr. 06, 2013)
Have you ever tried to figure out where people come from based on how they talk? In this course, we will look at the different words, accents, and even grammar used across the United States. In the process, you'll learn about linguistics, African American English (it's a fully grammatical language!), and how language relates to social groups.
