Brief Biographical Sketch:

Hello! My name is Nissim. I am originally from San Juan, Puerto Rico and am now pursuing my undergraduate degree at Yale University. I study Political Sciences with a focus on Latin America. Growing up, I was always very interested in international affairs and politics. Ultimately, I became more interested in the situation of my home, and to today, I keep learning more and more about the unique historical and political situation of my island. I love to share with others my passion for Puerto Rico and its people. In addition, at Yale, I am involved with the international students organization, greek life, and the jewish center.

H3682: Puerto Rico: Is it a Colony? in Splash Spring 19 (Apr. 06, 2019)
Over the course of the 20th century, Puerto Rico went from being a colony to being a commonwealth. Or did it turn into a Free Associated State? Or just a US territory? Or is it any different than a colony really? In this class, we will explore the history of the US-Puerto Rico relations to attempt to define the current political status of Puerto Rico. We will end by turning to today and discuss the implications of the political status on the everyday lives of Puerto Ricans.
