Brief Biographical Sketch:
Makena Senzon (Pierson College ‘28) is a chemical engineering major and is from Jupiter (not the planet), Florida. When she is not writing or reading stories, she may be found be tending a garden, making recycled paper, or thinking about her next adventure. Makena is involved with Yale Scientific Magazine, Society of Women in Engineering, Yale Climbing Team, and Yale Taps. Each year, the US Mint produces 10 billion coins. Since 1792, coins have been a cornerstone in our economy, but with the advent of new payment technologies, coins risk becoming remnants of the past. In this class, we will explore the story behind the cents, examine rare coins, and learn about the evolution of United States (and international) coinage throughout the years.
