Brief Biographical Sketch:
Hello and nyob zoo! My name is Bridgitte Thao and I was born and raised in St. Paul, Minnesota. I use she/her/hers pronouns. I'm the eldest of four children and the biggest book-lover of the family. In my free time, I like writing poetry, listening to Beyonce, and spending time at the library. At Yale, I'm studying economics and history of art. Would you like to build your own piece of history? Blending historical survey and hands-on learning, this course aims to teach students about the history of women engineers and innovators and their contributions to the field of engineering. From the inception of Bluetooth with Hedy Lamarr to the female codebreakers of World War II, women engineers, scientists, and thinkers have contributed immensely to the field of radio and communication. Students will also get the opportunity to participate in building a foxhole radio that was invented during the duress of World War II with the guidance of instructors. With a few everyday objects such as safety pins and pencil lead, students will create a tool that was integral to communicating with the American public during times of crisis.
