What makes us care about mysteries? How does the story keep us engaged and make us want to keep turning each page? During this course, you will learn the basic elements of mystery writing and work in small groups to better enhance both your writing skills and your understanding of elements of an intriguing story. We will focus on such areas as character development, setting up a crime scene and clues, and creating a villain. We will look at short excerpts from such writers as Agatha Christie, Arthur Conan Doyle, Edgar Allen Poe, and Carolyn Keene so that you can experience the many different styles of mystery. At the end of the course, you will write your very own short mystery story!
