X4271: Principles in Behavioral Economics in Splash Spring 2020 (Apr. 11, 2020)
Blending fundamentals from psychology and economics, Behavioral Economics provides valuable insight into how individuals are not behaving in their own best interests. We will provide a framework to understand when and why people make errors by exploring normative models (which propose what decision-makers should do) and descriptive models (which aim to describe what decision-makers actually do). We will discuss the topics of System 1 versus System 2 thinking, heuristics, and if given the time, Bayesian thinking.

E4174: Psychology in Our World: Thinking in Sprout Spring 2020 (Feb. 15 - 29, 2020)
"Psychology in Our World" is now reprised as a seminar! More than just hypnotics, brains, and psychotherapy, psychology is relevant to the world around us. In fact, psychology appears in many unexpected and fun situations! We will be discussing “what is psychology?” and how concepts such as inattentional blindness, heuristics, and illusion of skill acquisition impact many of us every day.

S4010: Psychology in Our World: Thinking in Splash Fall 2019 (Nov. 16, 2019)

We will be discussing “what is psychology?” and how concepts such as inattentional blindness, heuristics, and critical thinking impact many of us everyday. We will also "think" about our own decision making and how we form judgments about our worlds.
