Brief Biographical Sketch:
I’m a senior majoring in Comparative Literature and Political Science, passionate about Latin American history and literature- especially dictatorships and democracies- and I also write fiction. I’m from Sergipe, in northeastern Brazil. I love reading, writing, collecting books, and exploring different storytelling formats, and I hope to become a ELA high school teacher! Come learn about literatures from around the world! We will briefly explore Italian, South Korean, Brazilian, Russian, South African, Nigerian, and Indian literature. We’ll practice comparing and contrasting these traditions, and we’ll learn how to read works from cultures we may not know well- and how to learn from them.
C5287: Media Literacy 101 in Sprout Fall 2025 (Nov. 15 - 16, 2025)
Do you think critically about the media you consume? In this class, we’ll develop skills to distinguish real news from fake news, AI-generated, and biased content. Through hands-on exercises, we’ll learn how to be more informed about what we consume and how to check sources, spot red flags, and share information responsibly.
E5290: World History of Dictatorships in Sprout Fall 2025 (Nov. 15 - 16, 2025)
How do dictators gain power- and keep it? In this class, we’ll act like history detectives, studying case studies from Europe, Latin America, Africa, and Asia. You’ll compare how different dictatorships worked, learn the warning signs, and explore how people and communities can help prevent them. You’ll leave with lots of new knowledge and big questions to think about.
E5291: Developing a Moral Imagination in Sprout Fall 2025 (Nov. 15 - 16, 2025)
We’ll dive into ethics through one powerful short story- “The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas” by Ursula K. Le Guin- which we’ll read together in class. Through discussion and activities, you’ll explore your own position in this ethical dilemma and learn how people think about right and wrong in complex situations. Bridging stories and ethics, you’ll practice your moral imagination and begin to understand more complex ethical questions.
H5215: How to learn about yourself through books, movies and songs in Splash Fall 2025 (Oct. 04, 2025)
In this seminar, we will explore a short literary passage, a film clip, and a song, and build skills for interpreting art. We will use our responses to culture to uncover who we are and discuss the day-to-day applications of interpretation and self-discovery.
H5216: Action Lab: How You Can Change the World in Splash Fall 2025 (Oct. 04, 2025)
In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn how to research an issue you care about and practical ways to start making change today. We’ll briefly look at the history of changemakers and case studies of successful impact. The focus, however, is you—leaving with actionable skills to advance social justice.
H5217: Latin American History Crash Course in Splash Fall 2025 (Oct. 04, 2025)
Here we will move fast—from the early beginnings to the present—in Latin America, so you can go home having learned a lot of new things and understanding the big picture much better! We will hit the turning points of the region, focusing on what unites these countries and what differentiates them. Absolutely no prior knowledge needed—you’ll leave with a clear timeline, key terms, and an introduction to this wonderful region of the world.
H5218: Why democracies collapse? A Brief World History of Coups in Splash Fall 2025 (Oct. 04, 2025)
We will look at why democracies collapse and how coups work in practice. You’ll go home having learned a lot, after comparing case studies from Europe, Latin America, Africa, and Asia. We will approach history like detectives, looking for answers to why democracies collapse. And can we prevent this from happening? Let’s find out together!
