Brief Biographical Sketch:

Jack Maketa is a senior at Yale University studying Political Science, where he focuses on law and technology. When he’s not in the library, he works as an ocean rescue lifeguard on Long Beach Island, NJ. Jack is the third generation in his family to lifeguard the same beach, and he has spent 6 consecutive summers pulling swimmers from rip currents, training new guards, and competing in ocean rescue competitions along the Jersey shore. Jack loves teaching others about safety and survival in the ocean and is excited to share lifeguard stories, history, and practical skills with Splash students.

This class, taught by two veteran ocean rescuers, dives into the history and evolution of lifeguarding while teaching you the real skills lifeguards use to keep people safe in the surf.
