Brief Biographical Sketch:
Emilio is studying chronic disease epidemiology with concentrations in United States Health Justice and Implementation Science. Graduating from Miami University in 2020, Emilio has accumulated experience in various public health and science roles including working as a Peace Corps volunteer in South Africa, a naturalist for the Pacific Whale Foundation and a Health Equity Coordinator for the CDC Foundation. Global Health 101 focuses on exploring the main perspectives, goals, and challenges of work in global health. The course expands upon the interdisciplinary nature of global health to create a better understanding of the many fields that impact global health. Additionally, this course introduces the mission of Partners in Health Engage, a non-profit grassroots organization that works towards making health a human right.

In this course, you will learn about Community Based Participatory Research - a method for ensuring that interventions are what your community needs by making them central to the research and implementation process. You will learn about examples from the teacher's experience as a Peace Corps volunteer in South Africa and from the Community Based Participatory Research in the United States and engage in participatory research as a class.
